#1 GLOBAL GEOGRAPHY
(Addresses National Science Standard (NSS) #1 for grade levels K-8)
Students will learn basic map-reading skills, discover how the perspective of latitude and longitude are unique at the poles, and understand how the visual representation of a sphere changes when transformed from three to two dimensions.
Introducing the series with the study of world geography sets a precedent that climate change is a world-wide phenomenon-
we’re all in this together!
#2 POPULATED PLANET
(Addresses NSS #1, #4 and #7 for grade levels K-8.)
Students will understand the mathematics of exponential growth and be able to infer the subsequent pressures on a planet’s ability to support a growing population.
When guided through the activity of designing and sustaining a planet, students quickly discover how difficult it is to meet increasing demands with decreasing resources.
#3 HUMAN EFFECTS
(Addresses NSS #1, #4 and #7 for grade levels K-8.)
Students will understand the difference between human needs and desires, that it takes resources to support lives of luxury, and what is being effected by nations emerging beyond survival status.
Being human, we all share the quest for more comfortable lives, but as billions of people join the ranks of having luxuries such as electricity and automobiles, so too increase the consequences of harmful byproducts.
#4 RISING TEMPERATURES
Addresses NSS #1, #2, #3, #5 & #7 for grade levels K-8.)
Students will be able to explain how “Greenhouse Gases” are causing a rise in the overall temperatures on Earth, and some of the consequences this is creating.
Dramatic data about our warming planet is now readily available. What is Global Warming? Why are melting ice caps and rising sea levels a concern?
